Did you know that stem cells have the ability to divide for indefinite periods in culture and give rise to specialized cells? The real fascination comes with their potential to develop into many different types of cells: brain cells, muscle cells, red blood cells, etc.

The remarkable potential of stem cells is far too exciting not to let your mind wander! The more I read about stem cells, the more fascinated I become. Although the moral issues will deter some, it’s difficult to argue the value stem cells offer when it comes to the world of health and wellness. Here are a few questions we should all contemplate with regard to stem cell research:

  •      When does life begin? (In the womb, at birth?)
  •      Is a human embryo synonymous with a human child?
  •      What are the rights of a human embryo?
  •      If human embryos have rights, might the destruction of an embryo be justified if it helps to provide a cure for countless suffering patients?

All of these questions are reasonable and need to be addressed. Most of you will find your answers based in your faith and/or moral code. Either way, please remember that it’s important to keep an open mind and stay current about the use and possibilities stem cells provide.
